Obituary

MARJORIE K.,(Horsman) KELLEY, formerly of Malden, Melrose, and Saugus, May 6th at 88, in Bennington VT. Beloved wife of the late Howard M. Kelley. Devoted mother of Scott Kelley and his wife Susan of Wakefield and Donna MacKenzie-King and her husband David of Bennington, VT. Loving grandmother of Scott Kelley and his wife Michelle of Peabody, Joleah MacKenzie and Seth Butler, both of NH. Marjorie was predeceased by her granddaughter SPC Amanda Kelley this past February. Marjorie was also the cherished great-grandmother of Shaelyn and Hannah Kelley. She leaves her dear friend Adell Green of Medford. Marjorie was a member of what has been called "the greatest generation of Americans," surviving, like others her age, the miseries of the Depression and World War II, and striving to give her family a better life than she had known.Born in Malden and left fatherless at an early age, she and her mother persevered to maintain a home which became the first American stop for a long line of her mother's Nova Scotia brothers, sisters, and cousins. After attending Burdett, Marjorie first worked as a secretary at Jordan Marsh where she met her husband Howard, and settled in Melrose. She returned to work after raising two children as a secretary at Melrose Savings Bank, and later as personnel officer. After her retirement, she lived in Saugus and later joined her daughter Donna in Bennington, VT., where she volunteered at the Bennington Museum. Marjorie was an avid golfer and member for years at Mount Hood in Melrose and later the women's league in Middleton. She acquired an early interest in exercise and nutrition, practicing yoga, swimming laps, and eating healthy. One of her proudest achievements was learning to ride a bicycle as an adult. Her feisty attitude and courageous spirit, traits that sustained her and others throughout her life, were never more in evidence than in her final days. Funeral Service in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Sat. May 10th at 10AM. Family & friends invited. Visiting hours Fri. 4-6PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
