Obituary

Mary E. Bigwood died in Maine April 29th at the age of 93. She was born in Newton, raised in Newton, graduated from Newton High School and Boston University Class of 1926 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Mary lived in Newton for 46yrs, Melrose from 1955 to 1988 and with her daughter Linda and family in Scarborough Maine the past 14yrs. Mary also summered in the Sandhill section of Scituate from 1920 to 1960's. She was a Brownie Leader in Newton & Melrose, a member of the the Junior Guild of Infant Savior, the Catholic Women's Club, St. Mary's Church in Melrose, the Melrose Women's Club and St. Kolbe Maximillian Church in Scarborough Maine. Mary worked for the 1st National Bank of Boston in the accounting dept. in the 1930' & 1940's and also worked as a clerk for Jordan Marsh Co. in Malden in the 1960's & 1970's. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed ice skating and swimming. She was the wife of the late Allan Bigwood. Mother of Mary Ellen Maier & her husband John of Exeter NH and Linda Paul & her husband David of Scarborough ME. Grandmother of Kevin & Christopher Maier and Ryan, Kevin & Robert Paul. Sister of William Duane of Bourne, Louise O'Reilly of Framingham & the late John, Francis & George Duane and Dorothea Downes. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St Melrose on Thurs May 2 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, corner of Myrtle & Herbert Streeets, Melrose at 9 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Wed 6 - 9 pm. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
