Mary Elizabeth (Donnelly) Cihak passed away peacefully at her home in Melrose on October 3, 2018. She was 76 years of age. Mary was born in Boston on July 9, 1942 to the late John and Josephine (Burns) Donnelly. She spent her early childhood in Jamaica Plain before moving to Dedham. Mary graduated from Dedham High School and went on to graduate from Shepard Gill School of Nursing as a Licensed Practicing Nurse. Mary spent over 25 years working as a nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes in the Boston area. She spent the later years of her career working as an office manager for Dr. James J. Riley, Jr. DMD in Dedham. She lived most of her life in Dedham, with the last five years spent in Melrose. Mary took pleasure in going to the Milano Center in Melrose, where she spent many hours doing Swedish weaving. Mary also spent some time volunteering at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Mary had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family and peaceful times reading and doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod and traveling to places such as Bermuda, Ireland, Sweden, California and Florida. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Robert Cihak. She is survived by her children, Kristin McCarthy and her husband John of West Brookfield, Danielle Buckley of Beverly and Amanda Johansson and her husband Mathias of Melrose, as well as her grandchildren, Emily McCarthy, Conor McCarthy and Niklas Johansson. She is also survived by her sister Susan Riley and her husband James of Mashpee and sister-in-law Norma Daniels of Falmouth, as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 10:00AM. Interment to follow at Knollwood Cemetery in Canton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Lane, Memphis, TN 38105.
