Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Bourque) Coogan passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Sunday, May 18, 2008. She was 94 years of age. Born in Wakefield to the late John & Martha (Boudreau) Bourque. At the outbreak of WWI, Elizabeth spent her childhood in Nova Scotia until the age of 12 then returned to Everett where she attended Everett High School, met her husband, and raised her family. Mrs. Coogan has been a resident of Everett for the last 82 years. She was a talented homemaker, skilled in handcrafts, sewing and quilting. Betty loved the opera & Shakespeare; she attended courses at Harvard University and enjoyed listening to opera in her home. Mrs. Coogan spoke French fluently, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her late husband George. Betty was the wife of the late George J. Coogan. Mother of Maureen Barstow & her husband John of Melrose, Timothy Coogan & his wife Eileen of Stow, Paul Coogan & his wife Jacqueline of Melrose, Kevin Coogan of Everett and Richard Coogan & his wife Mary of N. Reading. Sister of Joseph Bourque & his wife Eleanor of Saugus and the late Marion Skerry, George & Harold Bourque. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wed. May 21st, at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited.
