Mary Bridget Cusack,
Mary B. Cusack, formerly of Melrose passed away died at the Blaire House in Tewksbury on Feb. 2, 2014 just a week shy of her 87th birthday. Mary was born on in Cloonbigney, Taughmaconnell, Ireland and was eldest daughter of the late John & Anne (Grady) Cusack and loving sister of Kathleen T. Driscoll & her late husband Robert of Melrose and the late Michael Cusack.
Mary emmigrated in 1945 at the age of 18 from Ireland to Boston following many of her relatives for opportunity in America. She worked for many prominent Boston families until she retired to Melrose in 1990 to be closer to her niece and nephews. She was devoted to her faith and was a member of St. Mary's Parish, the Lady's Sodality, Rosary Group, and attended daily mass until physically unable.
Mary's joy in life was being a caring and loving aunt to her nephews and niece. She met them and her sister every Thursday afternoon, her day off, in Boston to attend mass at the Shrine, shop Filene's and Jordan Marsh, and enjoy dinner with all of them. She celebrated every birthday, event, and holidays in their lives until age robbed her of faculties.
She was the cherished aunt to John J. Driscoll & his wife Merribeth of Springfield, Catherine A. Casey & her husband John of Tewksbury and Alfred M. Driscoll & his wife Samantha of NH. She continued her love and caring to her grand niece and nephews, John Michael, Audrey, Robert Francis Casey, all of Tewksbury.
Relatives and visitors celebrated Mary's life at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, Feb. 6th from 8:30–10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary' Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 11AM and laid to rest in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's name to the Little Sister's of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02143.
