Mary Elizabeth Dorn passed away at Wingate at Reading on March 10, 2015. Mary was born in Everett, raised in Salem, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School, Salem High School, Emmanuel College and received her Master's in Education from Harvard University. She also received the Fulbright Scholarship to Columbia University in 1958. Miss Dorn taught English & Spanish at Salem High School for 4 years, Everett High School for 36 years, Roger Ludlow High School in CT and at Bridgeport University in CT. Mary was a longtime resident in Melrose where she was very involved at Incarnation Church as a lector, greeter and a member of the Parish Council. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, Modern Foreign language Association, the Melrose Women's Club and the Emmanuel College Alumni Association. Mary was also a member of the Melrose Senior Chorus, was a volunteer tutor at Melrose High School and loved dogs. Miss Dorn was the daughter of the late Thomas F. & Mary A. (Lyons) Dorn. Sister of the late Thomas F. Dorn Jr. and Joseph A. Dorn. Also survived by 2 nephews and many cousins and friends. Family and friends may gather at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Saturday March 14, 2015 at 10:00AM, a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 11:00AM. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
