Mary E. (Driscoll) Sheehan, 85, a longtime Melrose resident, died of heart failure on Sept. 27, 2006 in Eugene, Oregon, where she has been a resident for more than 20 years. Mary Sheehan was born on April 11,1921, in Boston to Frank and Mary (Fallen) Driscoll. She was raised in CA. & Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1938, and was voted Queen of the Mt. Hood Winter Carnival in 1941. She lived in Melrose for over 50 years and summered in Gloucester. Mary Sheehan worked most of her life as the Head of Teacher Payroll for the Melrose Public Schools. She was an administrative assistant at the Junior High school and a Special Education aide for a brief time - retired in 1976. Mary was a very dedicated, mother, wife, grandmother and aunt, enjoying family activities throughout out her life. Mary was an avid gardener, did line dancing and Tia Chie. She studied @ University of OR, extension courses. Mary made many beautiful children's quilts for various charity organizations. She started a food hydration business while living in Melrose and continued with her business after moving to Oregon. Mary married Francis M. Sheehan on June 16, 1942 in Melrose. Mr. Sheehan died in 1981. They had three children: Nancy Sheehan of Gloucester, Michael F. Sheehan of Eugene, OR & the late Mary E. Sheehan RN. She is survived by sister Eileen Scott of FL, Jean Cain of PA, Patricia Scarpa of Andover, John Driscoll of NH, Betty Connolly, James Driscoll, Robert Driscoll, David Driscoll all of Melrose and the late Catherine Bistany. Mary also has 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Sat. October 28th at 9AM - Funeral Mass @ The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are invited.
