Mary "Mae" (Hardiman) Fitzmaurice, of Melrose, died December 30th, 2019 at the age of 100. Born in Medford, MA on May 8th, 1919 to Martin and Margaret (Moriarty) Hardiman, Mary was raised in Malden and attended Malden Schools before moving to Melrose with her family in 1962. Mary worked at the former Malden Hospital, performing EKG's. She was a Nurse's Aide, working in various nursing homes throughout the area as well as providing private care to patients in their homes. Whether you knew her as Mary or Mae, you knew how much she enjoyed going to Bingo, having her hair done, having visitors at The Fitch home to join her for tea or coffee, and boasting over the achievements of her grand daughters. Mae loved listening to Danny O'Donnell, traveling to Ireland with her sisters and having the occasional visit to Foxwoods. Truly a caretaker all her life, she will be missed by her family and friends for her quick comments and loving nature. Mary ("Mae") was the beloved wife of the late Samuel Paul Fitzmaurice, loving mother of Mary Pat Fitzmaurice and proud grandmother of Alicia and Keira Fitzmaurice. Loving sister of Pauline Howard & James and Louise Larsen & Robert; she was predeceased by six siblings: Katherine Barstow & John, Helen Hardiman, Edward Hardiman & Marion, Virginia Hardiman, Ann Wilson & Robert, and Martin Hardiman & Elaine. Mae is survived by her dear friends, Ron Edes and Richard Westervelt, who were like sons to her. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., from on Thurs., Jan. 9, 2020, from 4:00-6:30 PM. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home immediately following the visiting hours at 6:30 PM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
