Mary E. (Connolly) Foley passed away at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading, on September 2, 2013. She was 85 years of age. She was born in Boston on January 24, 1928 to the late Thomas & Nora (Burke) Connolly. Mary was raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School. Mrs. Foley was a homemaker who lived in Melrose for over 40 years before moving to Stoneham 13 years ago. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, attended Mass at St. Patrick Church in Stoneham frequently, was a member of St. Mary's Ladies Sodality and a former member of the ladies auxiliary at the Knights of Columbus in Melrose. Mary enjoyed playing bridge with the Stoneham Bridge Club and always had a bag packed ready to travel. Mrs. Foley enjoyed her trips to Ireland, Scotland, England, Bermuda, Aruba, Hawaii and numerous other locations. Most of all she loved to spend time with her four daughters and all her grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Foley. Loving mother of Maryellen Beeman & her husband Paul of Woburn, Carol Gorse & her husband Jack of Stoneham, Susan Noonan & her husband Joseph of Malden and Patty Rushton & her husband Jeff of Melrose. Caring grandmother of Colleen, Kelly and her husband Brian, John, Katie, Joey, Lauren, Christina, Ryan, Sean, Melissa and Jessica. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, Sept. 6th, at 8AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8PM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
