Mary T. Hammel, 75, died at Elliot Hospital Manchester NH, Wednesday after a lengthy illness. Born in Newport, NH, She was raised in Wakefield MA, graduated from Wakefield High in 1945 and received her Bachlor's Degree from New Rochelle College in 1949. Mary was a resident of Malden for 22 yrs and Melrose for 20yrs. Mary was a travel agent who helped establish Olde Harbour Travel Agency in Melrose and had been employed there until illness forced her to retire last May. She was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Church, a member of Women in Travel ( an avid traveler) and the Christ Child Society in Cambridge. She was the wife of the late Alfred F. Hammel, Beloved mother of Peter Hammel of Londonderry, Alfred F. Hammel Jr.& his wife Nancy of Malden, Lisa Thornton & her husband Steven of Windham, NH, Christine Nugent & her husband David of Gloucester and the late Denise Spencer. Grandmother of Elyse & Lauren Thornton of Windham and Christopher & Craig Hammel of Londonderry. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W Foster St., Melrose on Sat Jan 11 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St, Wakefield at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Fri 4 - 8 PM. Burial will be in St Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
