Mary (Barron) Hogan, of Melrose, passed away on March 16, 2015 at the age of 85. Mary was born in Boston on May 31, 1929. She graduated from Gate of Heaven High School and Middlesex Community College. In the late 1950s she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked as a decoding clerk for the Central Intelligence Agency. She returned to the Boston area where she met her husband John. They moved to Melrose and she lived there for the past 52 years.
Mary had a long, distinguished career as a paralegal at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). She received several prestigious awards while working there. In 1986, she was granted the Award for Excellence presented to her by former Secretary of Transportation, Elizabeth Dole.
Mary enjoyed reading and traveling. She was proud to have visited nearly 40 of the 50 U.S. states. She loved her career and the friendships she gained there, but what she treasured most was her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Hogan was the beloved wife of the late John Hogan. Loving mother of Marilyn "Lyn" Doran & her husband Stephen of North Reading, Joann O'Keefe & her husband Patrick of Greenland, NH, Thomas Hogan & his wife Christine of Sandwich, Matthew Hogan & his wife Dara of Andover and the late Nancy M. Hogan. Cherished grandmother of John, Alexandra, Luke & Peter O'Keefe, Amanda, Sara & James Doran, Katie & TJ Hogan and Kevin & Kealy Hogan. Loving sister of Eileen Sullivan of Norwood, Thomas Barron of Springfield and the late Joseph & Robert Barron. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 4:00-8:00PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday morning March 20th at 10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 11:30AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to the Melrose Public Library, 69 West Emerson St. Melrose, MA 02176
