Obituary

Mary J. (Lynch) Mahoney passed away at the Golden Living Center Dexter House in Malden, on Tuesday, March 2, 2011. She was 94 years of age. Mary was born in Chelsea on March 19, 1916 to the late Cornelius J. & Fanny (Mansfield) Lynch. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School & St. Mary's High School, Class of 1934 and was a longtime resident. Mrs. Mahoney worked for the New England Telephone Company as a 411 operator for 31 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the N.E. Telephone Pioneers Club; a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, played cards with her girlfriends for over 50 years and enjoyed trips to Maine & Cape Cod with "the girls". Mary was the beloved wife of the late Frederick D. Mahoney. Loving mother of Fay A. McLaughlin & her husband Tom of Burlington. Cherished grandmother of Marci Gouveia & her husband Peter of Southbury, CT and Kerri McLaughlin of Salem, NH. Proud great grandmother of Troy & Jack Gouveia. Devoted sister of Geraldine Gillcrist & Rita DeCoste both of Melrose and the late Eileen McCarthy, Florence Smith & Edward Lynch. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at Gately Funeral home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, March 7th at 11:30AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2:00-6:00PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dexter House, 120 Main St. Malden, 02148 or Asera Care Hospice, 40 Washington St., Wellesley, 02481.
