Mary L. (Conroy) Cargill passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Melrose on March 4, 2013. She was 90 years of age. She was born in Hingham on September 13, 1922 to the late Joseph & Mary H. (Kelly) Conroy. Mary was raised in Hingham, graduated from Hingham High School and from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Cargill worked as a registered nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital for a few years and then took some time off to raise her 8 children. Mary returned to nursing and worked as a registered nurse in the Surgical ICU at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for over 20 years. Mrs. Cargill enjoyed her trips to Lakeland, Florida during the winter and spending time during the summer in Jefferson NH. She enjoyed getting together with the girls, knitting a lot of her children's hats and mittens, but most of all spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Philip P. Cargill. Devoted mother of Peter F. & his wife Mary of Melrose, Philip J. & his wife Karyl of Plymouth, the late Paul J. & his wife Elaine of NH, Gerard X of Melrose, Mary C. Estabrooks & her late husband Duncan of VT, Ann L. Grossheim of Stoneham, Regina M. Wells & her husband Graham of Dracut and Elizabeth A. Iriana & her husband Nathan of N. Reading.Sister of Millie Stopyra of FL, Joan Conroy of Melrose and the late Donald, Paul, Joseph & Eleanor Conroy. Loving grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, March 9th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church. Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited.
