Mary M. (Tarpey) Mahoney, of Melrose, died at her home on July 16, 2012 at the age of 89. Mary was born in Boston, raised in Somerville, Arlington & Brighton and a graduate of Brighton High School. She resided in Medford for 30 years, Stoneham for several years and the past year in Melrose. Mary was a homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Church & the Ladies Sodality in Medford for many years. She was great cook, baker and enjoyed music & gardening. Mary loved raising her 9 children and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a good friend & neighbor and enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Switzerland and Germany. Mary was the beloved wife of the late John G. Mahoney. Loving mother of John J. Mahoney & his wife Polly of VA, Mary Hayward & her husband William of Melrose, Daniel Mahoney & his wife Kellie of Andover, Thomas Mahoney & his wife Gina of Winchester, Richard Mahoney & his wife MaryAnn of Medford, Robert Mahoney of Melrose and the late Eileen Cyr and Stephen & Michael Mahoney. Caring sister of Thomas Tarpey of Charlton, John Tarpey of Carver, Francis Tarpey of Dedham, James Tarpey of Wakefield, Richard Tarpey of Burlington, Robert Tarpey of Braintree and the late Joseph Tarpey & Eileen Woods. Mother in law of Valmond Cyr of Medway and Gail Mahoney of Medford. Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday July 20th at 10:45AM. A Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 12:00PM. Relatives & friends are invited. There are no visiting hours.
