Mary (Bailot) Norton of Peabody, formerly of Melrose passed away early Sunday morning at home with her family present. She will be missed by many. She was born in Brighton to the late Louis and Catherine (Rice) Bailot and brought up by Louis and Elizabeth (Martin) Bailot after Catherine passed.
She worked as a nurse at Holy Ghost Hospital with incurable children until she left to raise a family in 1956. She went back to work at Middlesex Fells Nursing Home in Melrose full time when her youngest child started school. She made our home the place all our friends came to hangout when we were young with most of them calling her "Mom".
In later years she enjoyed reading and watching game shows and EWTN programs such as "Going My Way", The Rosary with Mother Angelica and The Sunday Mass with her family. Her Catholic Faith was very important to her.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her great joy.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years George F. Norton, her daughter Therese, infant son Andrew and son-in-law Derek Jefferson.
She leaves behind her children Marylou DeRosa and her husband Giovanni, Nancy Melanson and her husband Tom, George A. Norton, Jeanne Norton, Judy Hicks and her husband Bill, her grandchildren Katie Eisan and her husband Mark, Alex and Justin DeRosa, Andrew Norton Jefferson, Mary, Luke and Max Hicks and great grandchildren Hayley and Chloe Eisan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at St. Adelaide's Church, 708 Lowell Street, Peabody at 11:00 AM ( Please go directly to the church) Interment will follow at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Family & Friend's respectfully invited to attend.
