Mary E. (Sampson) Porcaro passed away at the Avery Manor in Needham, on January 30th, she was 77. Mary was born in Boston, raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School. Mrs. Porcaro worked as an assistant buyer for RH Whites Department Store in Boston for 10 years. While raising her family, she did volunteer work at St. Marys Grammar School in Melrose and at Malden Catholic High School, running the bingo at Malden Catholic. Mary returned to work in the family business, Hugos of Melrose, she was the Vice President of Finance for the past 30 years. Mrs. Porcaro has been a resident of Melrose for the past 52 years and enjoyed her summers and friends in Harwichport for the past 35 years. Mrs. Porcaro loved gardening, swimming, reading, decorating her home in Harwichport and traveling. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was the beloved wife of Alfred R. Porcaro. Devoted Mother of Janet M. Porcaro & her husband Eliot Winograd of Newton, Alfred R. Porcaro Jr. & his wife Diane, Robert M. Porcaro & his wife Sandra all of Melrose and Mary Ellen Madden & her husband Jack of N. Andover. Loving sister of Thomas Sampson & his wife Marie of Needham, Frances Haley & her husband Charles of Winchester and the late Annabelle & John Goulter. Devoted grandmother of Daniel Winograd, Jennifer, Aimee, Alfred R. III, Sharon, Gregory, Nicholas, Christopher Porcaro, Brian Goodhue and Jillian Lee Madden. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday Feb. 4th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thurs. 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose.
