Obituary

Mary A. (Dugan) Reardon passed away in Medford on October 1,2006, she was 82. Mary was born on July 1, 1924 in the town of Wakefield, Ma to the late Thomas S. Dugan and Mary (Barry) Dugan. She graduated from Malden High School in 1942. Upon graduation, Mary worked at the Telephone Company as an operator. On July 18, 1945 she was united in marriage to Francis G. Reardon and they began their life together in Saugus Ma. They welcomed the births of William, Patricia, and Francis. In 1953 they moved to Melrose and years later welcomed the birth of their fourth and last child Mary Katherine. Mary enjoyed her role as wife and mother. She volunteered as a catechism teacher and was a leader of her daughter's Girl Scout troop. She also was quite an artist. Oils and pastels were her specialties. When she wasn't painting, she enjoyed creating various arts and crafts and donating them to the annual church bizarres. In 1968, her husband Frank, a retired Boston Fire Fighter, passed away at the age of 45 after a long illness. She then took on the dual role of mother and father. Soon after, she began working as a medical assistant for two prominent doctors in Melrose, Dr. MacLachlan & Dr. Morelli, until she retired in 1985. Mary retired to Lauderdale By the Sea, Florida. She was an active member of her condominium's board and also worked at Holy Cross Hospital in the medical records department. She loved Florida especially because she was able to spend time with her two granddaughters. Over the years, Mary traveled several times to Hawaii and also went abroad to Europe, touring Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Her hobbies included golfing, going to the movies, reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Reardon was the devoted wife of the late Francis G. Reardon. Loving mother of William F. Reardon & his wife Karyn of Salem, Patricia A. Longever of FL, Francis T. Reardon of Melrose and Mary K. "Mamie" Reardon of Saugus. Beloved grandmother of Melissa I & Jaime J. Longever of FL. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, October 6th, at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Thurs. 4-8PM. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis TN or Arthritis Foundation 29 Crafts St. Newton 02158.
