Mary T. (Lally) Thompson, of Melrose, died at the Arnold House Nursing Home in Stoneham on April 15th at the age of 80. Mary was born in Waltham, raised in Cambridge and a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cambridge. She went on to earn her degree from Lowell State Teacher College and her Master's in Education from Boston College. Mary worked as a School Teacher in the Cambridge Public Schools from 1951-1964, Melrose Public Schools for 3 years and as a Librarian at the Melrose Public Library for 10 years. She was a past president & member of the Legion of Mary in Cambridge, Elder Hostel & Christian Family Movement in Melrose for many years. Mary was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield & St. Mary's Church in Melrose for many years. She was also a sponsor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston for many years. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Richard H. Thompson. Loving mother of Mary Thompson of NY, Ruth Ann Thompson of Wakefield, Ellen Thompson of Fl and Richard S. Thompson & his wife Catherine of Lexington. Devoted grandmother of Mariam, Mirza, Altea, Wilem and Ella. Caring sister of Thomas Lally of VA, Ann Costanza of Reading and the late Francis Lally, William Lally and Ruth (Lally) Brown. A memorial mass in Mary's honor will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Saturday, April 24th at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Interment will be private. In lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's name to the American Heart Association, 185 Franklin St., Boston, MA 02110-1511.
