Matthew D. Matty Laverty, 42, of Decatur, IL passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. Mr. Laverty was born July 20, 1963 in Gourock, Scotland. He was raised in Melrose, attended St. Marys Grammar & graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1981. Matty received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, MA. Mr. Laverty lived most of his life in Melrose and the past 13 years in Illinois. He worked for Tate & Lyle Manufacturing Co. as a Utility Area Manager, Decatur, IL for many years. Matty loved his family & friends, but his wife Jill was the love of his life. He loved cigars, ice hockey, golf and was a longtime member of St. Marys Church in Melrose Husband of Jill (Grinestaff) Laverty of Decatur. Stepfather of Jon Grinestaff of Decatur. Son of Teresa (McLaughlin) Laverty of Melrose & the late Daniel J. Laverty. Brother of Daniel J. Laverty & his wife Susan of Salem, NH, Anne F. Laverty, Paul C. Laverty & his wife Julia and Patricia R. Stevens & her husband David all of Melrose. Also survived by many much-loved nieces, nephews, family and friends. A memorial mass will be held at St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, on Tuesday July 18th at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited.
