Maureen Catherine Doherty of Melrose, MA formally Somerville, MA, passed peacefully in her sleep November 2nd at the Life Care Center in Lynn, MA after a long battle with cancer.

Maureen age 72 was predeceased by her mother, Roberta (Jack) and father John J. Doherty of Charlestown, her sister Patricia Preys of Somerville and Roberta Connors of Charlestown. She is survived by her brothers, John, and his wife Cynthia of Melrose, Charles Jones of New Hampshire; and sisters Anne Jones of New Mexico and Deborah Tobin of Medford.

She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and a grand-nephew, and her many dear friends at the Steele House, Melrose.

Maureen graduated from Somerville High in 1967. As a young girl a week would not pass without lengthy sessions roller skating with her sisters at the Bal-a-Roue in Medford. She became an accomplished skater culminating as a Novice North American Dance Championship in 1979.

In later years, she could be seen with her beloved Mustang convertible enjoying a drive. She enjoyed travel with her mother and sisters and found Hawaii one of her favorite places to see. And she dearly loved day trips with friends.

Funeral arrangements will be private.
