Obituary

Maureen Lillian (Doran) Groves

January 28, 1942 – July 29, 2025

Maureen L. Groves, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 29th at the age of 83. A long-time resident of Melrose, MA and Palm Bay, FL, Maureen was known for her warmth, wit, generous heart and unwavering devotion to her family.

Born in Somerville and raised in Medford, Maureen was the daughter of the late James and Marie Lillian Doran. She met the love of her life, Lawrence J. Groves, while he was proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps. The two shared a remarkable bond and were married for 56 years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and strong family values.

Maureen lived a life of purpose and service. She spent many years as a dedicated Cub Scout leader and was an active member of the Melrose High School Bandaiders, proudly supporting her children's and community's endeavors. She gave her time freely and with great heart, always putting others before herself.

In recognition of her commitment to the military community, Maureen received a letter of commendation from the United States Marine Corps for her steadfast support of Marines and their families during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm – an honor she carried with deep pride.

A world traveler with a spirited sense of adventure, Maureen explored cultures and countries across the globe. Whether far from home or right here in town for Wednesday night bingo, she embraced life with curiosity, humor, and gratitude. Her kitchen table was always open for coffee, conversation, and connection – no invitation required.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence J. Groves; her children Wendy and Glen; daughters-in-law Nicole and Alicia; son-in-law Philip; her adored grandchildren Grace, Lily, Colton and Jacqueline; bonus grandchildren Shane and Lily Rose; her brother James, sister-in-law Valerie, and niece Nicole; and many other family members and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Maureen was preceded in death by her beloved son Wayne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen's name to the American Cancer Society or the International Elephant Foundation.

Maureen lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
