Melvin M. Burgess, of Malden, died at the Chestnuts Woods Nursing Center in Saugus on Oct. 2, 2014 at the age of 80. Melvin was born & raised in Cambridge and a graduate of Rindge Technical High School. He resided in Cambridge until 1967 and Malden for most of his life. Melvin worked as a Truck Driver for Jones Seafood at the Boston Fish Pier in Boston for many years before his retirement. He loved thoroughbred racing and spending time at Suffolk Downs & Saratoga race track in New York. He enjoyed country music and was an avid Boston Red Sox & baseball fan. He was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte M. (McAleavey) Burgess. Loving father of Susan Bowdridge & her husband Richard of Malden, Scott Burgess & his wife Deborah of Hollis, NH, Tom Burgess & his wife Shelley, Charlotte Biasetti & her husband Anthony, all of Malden and Michael Burgess & his wife Wendy of NH. Cherished grandfather of Tara, Ross, Sadie, Michael, Julia and Megan. Caring great grandfather of Owen & Fiona. Devoted brother of William Burgess of FL, Winifred Snow of Watertown, Kinnon Burgess of Malden and the late Robert Burgess. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, Oct. 9th at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to the service from 8:30-10:00AM. Burial will be private.
