Obituary

Michael J. Hodgson Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 22, 2024. He was 66 years of age.

He was born in Winthrop and graduated from Melrose High School in 1975. Michael spent much of his life in Melrose before moving to South Berwick, ME, where he lived for the last 36 years. He was a hard worker with an incredible work ethic right up until the day he retired last summer. Michael enjoyed golfing with his family and his friends and found comfort each summer in supporting the George T. Hodgson Memorial Golf Tournament in Memory of Michelle Hodgson. He treasured the history and many memories at "The Camp". Michael was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren and great grandchild, whose vibrant presence brought him immense pride. He found joy in sharing their accomplishments and celebrating their milestones.

Michael was predeceased by his wife, Michelle M. Hodgson. He was the beloved son of the late George T. Hodgson Jr. & late Frances T. Hodgson of Melrose. MA. Michael will be dearly missed by his children Shannon M. Hodgson and husband Scott Serio of Colora, MD, Meggan M. Hodgson and her husband William Blais of Stratham, NH and Michael J. Hodgson Jr. of Maine. Cherished grandfather to Haleigh, Hunter, Leah, Liam, Sydney, Karina, Macie and great granddaughter Charlotte. Loving brother to the late George T. Hodgson III, the late Kathleen T. Cheney, Eileen Zaino of Melrose, MA, Kenneth Hodgson and his wife Pam of Reading, MA, Joanne Peavey of Haverhill, MA, Joseph Hodgson and his wife Susan of Merrimack, NH, Patricia Silva of Delray Beach, FL., and Robert Hodgson and his wife Michelle Martin of Leakesville MS. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Michael was a US Army Veteran.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 5:00PM-8:00PM. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 10:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose at 11:00AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
