Michael D. "Mike" McMahon, of Melrose, formerly of Cambridge, Retired Cambridge Police Officer, died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on July 4, 2016 at the age of 68. Mike was born in Somerville, raised in Cambridge and a graduate of Cambridge Rindge School. He went on to receive his master's degree from Anna Maria College in Criminal Justice. Mike resided in Cambridge until 1988 and Melrose for almost 30 years. He worked as a Cambridge Police Officer and Detective for over 20 years before his retirement. Mike was a member of the Cambridge & Melrose Elks Club and the Norman Prince VFW Post #1506 in Melrose,. He loved gardening, collecting stamps and coins, history, Irish history, Irish Culture and traveled to Ireland several times. Mike was the loving son of the late John P. & Marion M. (Dennis) McMahon. Caring brother of John P. McMahon & his wife Suzanne of Cambridge. Uncle of Kate McMahon of Washington D.C. & Lauren McMahon of Cambridge. Also survived by cousins & friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, July 8th from 4-7PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Saturday, July 9th at 8AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
