Milton C. "Mit" Newmark passed away at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham, on February 15, 2009. He was 99 years of age. Born in New York, New York to the late Henry & Clara (Moses) Newmark, he was brought up in South Amboy, NJ. Mit graduated from South Amboy High School where he was a natural athlete and inducted into the Hall of Fame for Baseball. Mr. Newmark worked as an office manager for the Dupont Company for 46 years. While working for Dupont he lived in Birmingham Alabama, St. Paul Minnesota and settled in Melrose after he retired. He has been a resident of Melrose for 15 years. Mit and his late wife Margaret had an antique shop at Todd's Farm in Rowley for 15 years. Mr. Newmark was an avid golfer, loved baseball, was a NY Giants and Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing the piano right up until last week. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Melrose and was a volunteer at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Mit was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Bartos) Newmark. Father of Gloria McDermott & her husband Tom of NY, Judith Kelly & her husband James of Orleans, Margaret A. Newmark in Melrose and John H. Newmark & his wife Nancy of Ohio. Brother of May, Carl, Burt, Ruth as well as numerous deceased brothers & sisters. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday Feb. 20th at 9:30AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited.
