Mona T. (Keohan) Gustafson, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018. Mona was born in Melrose on November 7, 1926 to the late Phillip & Helen (Aylward) Keohan. She was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1944. Mona married the late Carl F. Gustafson Sr. in 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Melrose. They continued to live in Melrose and raised their family there. Mona worked as a CSP Technician at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for 30 years and still had many friends from her time working there. She was a true matriarch of her family and was always there for anyone who needed help. Mona always made the holidays a wonderful time, all were welcome. She was terrific at sewing and often made many of the clothes for her children by hand. Mona was a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she cherished the time she had with them. She loved her family with all of her heart and they will all miss her dearly. Mona was predeceased by her loving husband, Carl F. Gustafson Sr., and her son Carl F. Gustafson Jr. Beloved mother of Gayle Peterson of Melrose, Andrea Hamilton & her husband Patrick of Hudson, NH, Sonja Derrico-Tricomi & her husband Vincent of Stoneham, Karin Narkun & her husband John of Wakefield, and her niece Pamela Hogan Rose. Beloved longtime partner, friend, and companion of John Logue of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Stärk & his wife Jennifer, Jennifer & her husband Martin, Mack & his wife Jessica, Meredith & her husband Brian, Solen & her husband Joshua, Carla & her husband Shawn, and Eric & his fiancée Allison. Proud great-grandmother of Eli, Amaya, Abigail, Aven, Margaret, Cameron, and Rowen. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Visiting Hours will be held on Thurs., Jan. 3, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Fri., Jan. 4, 2019 at 9:00 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Burial to follow at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
