Muriel M. (Hinden) Hennigar passed away at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on Saturday, February 19, 2011. She was 98 years of age. Muriel was born in Dorchester on January 12, 1913 to the late Charles & Mae (Matthews) Hinden. She was raised in East Boston with her 3 sisters, graduated from East Boston High School and attended nursing school but had to resign due to health reasons. Mrs. Hennigar lived in Melrose for over 60 years and was a very close friend of the Troy & Justice families. She worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Edward Thorp of Melrose for 30 years, was a longtime volunteer at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and the Trinity Church Thrift Shop. Muriel enjoyed crafts and will be greatly missed by her many friends and extended family. She was the beloved wife of the late Lewis C. Hennigar. Stepmother of Lewis D. Hennigar & his wife Mariella of NH and the late Dana E. Hennigar and his wife Jill of Reading. Also survived by 7 step grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, 4 step great great grandchildren and a nephew, many nieces, extended family & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday February 26th at 9AM. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Muriel's life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Followed by a reception in the church hall immediately after Mass and interment in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. There are no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
