Obituary

Nicholas "Nick" Di Mauro, 81, passed away at Inspritis memory care living in Stuart, FL on November 18, 2022, after a 2 year battle with Alzheimer's.

Nick was born on July 30, 1941, in Melrose, MA, the son of the late Angelina and Nicholas Di Mauro. He graduated from Melrose High School and Northeastern University before serving as an original member of the MBTA police force before becoming an officer for the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) Police Department.

Nick was a faithful parishioner at Incarnation Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan, with a passion for thoroughbred racing, including ownership of several racehorses competing at Suffolk Downs. Nick and his friends enjoyed spending time together at Bill Ash's bar in Revere and on annual trips to watch the horse races at Saratoga.

Nothing was more important to Nick than his family. He spent many years caring for his aging mother, enjoyed nothing more than sitting down to a Sunday "gravy" surrounded by his family, and spent much of his time in retirement cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events.

Nick is preceded in death by his brother Joseph N. Di Mauro of Woburn, Angelina F. Sousa of Melrose, and Rocco R. Di Mauro of Melrose. Nick is survived by his daughter Julie Thacker and her husband Jim, son Nick and his wife Ellen, and son Stephen and his wife Amy; 5 grandchildren (Christopher and his wife Crystal, Anthony, Alyssa, Vincent, and Sophia DiMauro); 1 great grandchild (Phoenix), and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 30, 2022, at St. Mary's of the Annunciation Church, 4 Herbert St, Melrose, MA 02176 at 10AM, followed by a procession to the Wyoming Cemetery at 205 Sylvan St, Melrose, MA 02176. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Nick Di Mauro from 12-2:00 PM at Kowloon restaurant, 948 Broadway, Saugus, MA 01906.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452 in Nick's memory.
