Nicholas S. Pappas passed away at the Hellenic Nursing & Rehab in Canton, on December 11, 2007. He was 85. Nick was born and raised in Chios, Greece. At age 13 he boarded a merchant ship and set out for the United States. Mr. Pappas arrived at Ellis Island in New York in 1935 and began to work as a merchant marine. Nick served as a US Merchant Marine for over 10 years during WWII. After his discharge in 1945, he moved to Malden and began to work in the factories. Mr. Pappas then worked as a manager for Kappys Liquors in Malden for over 40 years and also as a bartender at the tavern behind Kappys. He was affectionately known as Nick the Greek throughout Malden. Nick was a Malden resident for over 65 years, was an avid sports fan and loved his family & grandchildren. Mr. Pappas was the former husband of Mary M. (Ferentinos) Pappas of Melrose. Father of Betty Pappas Zedros & her husband Alex of Melrose and Tina Marie Materese & her husband David of FL. Grandfather of Leigha M. & Alexandra A. Zedros, Christina M. Mamone, Jessica C. & David Nicholas Materese. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Annunciation of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, 514 Parker St. Boston, on Friday Dec, 14th at 11AM. Relatives & friends invited.
