Owen W. Shields passed away at his home in Melrose, on June 18th, at the age of 51. Owen was born in Melrose, raised in Medford, graduated from St. Josephs Grammar School in Medford and Matignon High School in Cambridge, with the Class of 1970. He was an active in the CYO and the Band at St. Josephs School in Medford. Owen graduated Suma cum Laude at Merrimack College in Andover in 1974, with a degree in political science. Mr. Shields worked as a Legislative Aid for Tip ONeil in Washington DC in the 1980s. He worked for the Ninety-Nine Restaurants in Cambridge for 10 years as the bar manager. Owen has been a resident of Melrose for the past 20 years, was an Avid golfer and a member of the Ancient Order of Hybernians. He was the son of the late Aidan J. and Ellen Bobbie (Reagan) Shields. Brother of Annabelle Shields & her husband William Westlund of Melrose and Audrey Shields & her husband Thomas Heavey of Wakefield. Nephew of Paul Shields of FL, and the late Catherine, Edward, James, Anna & Ernest Reagan, the late Eleanor Moore, Lorraine McDermott, Margaret Taunton, William Shields and Eugene Shields. Also survived by many cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W Foster St, Melrose on Thurs June 24th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in St Josephs Church, 118 High St, Medford at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Wed. 4-8 PM. Burial will be private.
