"Where are we going today, Grandma?"

It was a question Patricia "Pat" Doucette loved to hear. Whether the destination was a neighborhood park, a museum in Boston, lunch at a favorite restaurant, or simply a new adventure together, Pat believed that childhood should be filled with discovery, laughter, and memories. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to giving children—first her own, then her grandchildren, and countless others—the opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the world around them.

Pat Doucette of Tewksbury passed away at home, surrounded by all of her children, on July 31, little more than a week after celebrating her 91st birthday. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, service, and an enduring belief that children thrive through encouragement, opportunity, and shared experiences.

Pat was predeceased by her husband, Armand "Army" Doucette. Together they built a family that remained the center of her life.

She is survived by her four children: Armand Doucette and his wife Cathleen, of Newburyport; Michelle Brown of Hopedale, widow of the late Daniel Brown; Michael Doucette and his wife Patricia of Hubbardston; and Carlene Doucette of Tewksbury. She was the proud grandmother of Sean and Anna (Armand and Cathleen), Bryce and Danielle (Michelle and Daniel), and Jocelyn (Michael and Patricia), each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.

Pat was the loving daughter of the late Francis and Josephine Womack and the eldest of three sisters. She was predeceased by her sister, Carlene Hosker of Gulfport, FL and is survived by her sister, Jackie Orlandella of Atkinson, NH.

Born in Pawtucket, RI, she raised her family in Malden before making her home in Tewksbury. Pat devoted herself to raising her family. She believed that a rich childhood was measured not by material possessions, but by experiences. She worked tirelessly to fill her children's lives with opportunities to learn, grow, and explore. Family outings to Boston's museums and historic sites, camping trips, and countless activities through sports, Scouts, the YMCA, and after-school programs became treasured memories that shaped her children for life.

Her love for children extended far beyond her own family. As a young mother, seeing a kindergarten teacher overwhelmed, she organized a classroom volunteer program at the Emerson School in Malden that brought other mothers into the classroom to help. She taught Sunday School, created an after-school arts and crafts program for third graders, volunteered in her children's schools, and supported Little League baseball, Pop Warner football, and the color guard in which her children participated. Wherever there were children who could benefit from another caring adult, Pat found a way to help.

Once they were grown, she returned to the workforce, spending many years in the Development Office at Tufts University. Her dedication and work ethic were so valued that after retiring, Tufts invited her back to work part-time. Later, she chose a shorter commute and more personal time, accepting a position at the local Walmart, where she enjoyed the friendships she formed with coworkers. Her love of bowling with the Red Hats consumed some of that personal time.

Pat discovered a passion for travel late in life. Alongside one or both of her sisters, she journeyed throughout the world, visiting Ireland, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, China, and many other destinations. While she marveled at the landmarks and history that she had read so much about previously, what she treasured most were the people she met and the cultures she experienced. The memories of those journeys stayed with her for the rest of her life, and she was always so excited to share them with anyone who would listen.

When her grandchildren arrived, they quickly became the center of her universe. Holidays filled with family were among her greatest pleasures, but she also enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with each grandchild individually. Whether hiding together in giant piles of autumn leaves, exploring the toy room at Grandma's house, enjoying lunch together, visiting neighborhood parks, introducing them to the same Boston landmarks she had shared with her own children years before, or just being there to cheer them on in anything they chose to do, she treasured every moment, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Even after her grandchildren had grown, her calling to nurture young people remained. She returned to the classroom, again as a kindergarten volunteer, but this time at the L. F. Dewey School in Tewksbury, where she found new children to encourage, support, and love. Every stage of Pat's life brought a new chapter of service, learning, and caring for others - it was simply who she was.

One final journey held special meaning. She returned to Ireland with one of her children during a business trip, ending the adventure by sharing a Guinness together at the top of the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin— another cherished memory in a life filled with shared experiences.

Those who knew Pat will remember her warm smile, her welcoming spirit, and her remarkable ability to make every child feel special. She taught by example that life's greatest gifts are not things, but time spent together, opportunities to learn and grow, and kindness offered without any expectations.

Her family will forever carry forward the lessons she taught, the adventures she inspired, and the love she so generously shared. Her influence lives on not only in her children and grandchildren, but in the countless young lives she touched throughout her 91 extraordinary years. For Pat, the greatest gift was helping others create memories. In return, she gave her family a lifetime of them.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Sunday, August 9th, 2026 from 2:00-5:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Gately Funeral Home, on Monday, August 10th, 2026, at 11:00am. Interment to follow the service at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
