Patricia "Patty" O'Brien, 55, of Melrose, passed away August 26, 2021. Patty was born in Winchester on April 9, 1966 to the late John O'Brien of Malden and Joan (Granara) O'Brien Sullivan of East Boston.
In addition to her mother, Joan, Patty is survived by her sister Kim Sullivan-Ferraro and her husband Tony Ferraro of North Reading, and nephew Alex and niece Anna. She is also survived by her cherished aunt Maureen O'Brien of Melrose, as well as her dear cousins Janice Johnson & her husband Bob of Billerica and Bob Pecora of Belmont. Also survived by relatives & friends.
Patty was raised in Belmont and then Winchester, where she attended Winchester High School, Class of 1984. Given her strong interest in medicine, Patty went on to attend Middlesex Community College where earned her medical assistant degree in 1986.
After residing on Cape Cod for many years, Patty settled in Melrose nearly 15 years ago. Having lived with epilepsy since childhood, Patty fought the illness with resilience, dignity, and a bit of humor. She was very active in her local epilepsy support group, a circle of people she grew to adore. Patty enjoyed connecting with friends, painting, exploring Melrose, and playing with her beloved niece and nephew.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 4-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
