Patrick G. Carroll, of Melrose, died suddenly Tuesday, October 26, 2010 while vacationing in Mexico. He was only 67 years old. Born on March 20, 1943 in Charlestown, a son to the late Patrick & Julia (O'Shea) Carroll, he was raised in Charlestown until the age of 13 and then lived in Malden from the age of 13 until he was 28. He finally settled in Melrose in 1971. Mr. Carroll graduated from Suffolk University and continued his education at Bentley College, receiving his Masters in Taxation in 1984. He worked as a police officer for a few years in Malden to help pay for college and then as a self-employed CPA in Melrose until his retirement this year. Patrick enjoyed his loving family, traveling, reading, biking and the FOX News Channel. He was a Melrose resident for 39 years, a member of the St. Mary's Church of Melrose, a Melrose Youth Hockey Coach and Past President of the Melrose Kiwanis Club. He was the loving husband of Sylvia Jacobson Carroll & the late Maureen (Shinney) Carroll. He was the devoted father of Amy M. Coumounduros & her husband Peter of Reading, Michael P. Carroll of Melrose, Brian P. Carroll & his wife Emily of Winchester, Kenneth P. Jacobson & his wife Eileen of Duxbury, Kathleen J. Holtshouser & her husband Stuart of NH & Carlene T. Melia & her husband Teddy of CT. Cherished grandfather of Caroline & Caitlin Coumounduros, Catherine Maureen Carroll, Kenneth, Thomas, Richard & John Jacobson, Matthew, Emily & Katelyn Holtshouser & Jillian, Cassie & Delaney Melia. Caring brother of Hugh Carroll of Malden, Mary Toomey of Woburn & Eileen Arsenault of Malden. Brother-in-law of Brendan Shinney of Whitman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, November 2nd at 8AM. A Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM.
