Paul Joseph
O'Callaghan
Sep 14, 1940 — Oct 24, 2026
Sunday
Billerica Elks Lodge #2071
12:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern time)
Paul Joseph O’Callaghan, affectionately known as Paul, Red, Dad, or Papa, lived a life filled with laughter, love, family, and a little bit of Irish magic. A Somerville guy from the start, Paul had a personality that could light up a room, a gift for making people laugh, and a charm that made him unforgettable.
Throughout his life, Paul wore many hats. He worked as a bartender, a cab driver, and a chemical processor at Polaroid. He also served as Treasurer of the Billerica Elks Lodge 2071, a role that reflected his connection to his community. No matter where life took him, Paul had a way of connecting with people and leaving them with a story to tell.
At the heart of Paul's life was his family. He was the proud father of seven children: Peter, Paul, June, Kenny, Tracey, Kim, and Shannon. He was a beloved father-in-law to Nikki and his other sons- and daughters-in-law, and a cherished Papa to his thirteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, with another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his younger brother, Eddie, and Eddie's wife, Carol, along with a large extended family who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Paul loved life, his family, and, as those who knew him would agree, a sure bet. He had a special talent for turning ordinary moments into memorable ones, and his stories, humor, and larger-than-life personality became part of the fabric of the O’Callaghan family.
As his sister-in-law, Carol, so beautifully expressed, the O’Callaghan family has lost its own little leprechaun. Those who loved Paul knew there was something a little magical about him, a whole lot of blarney, and a charm all his own. Her words capture what so many feel: although we are left with memories, oh, what memories they are!
Paul's passing leaves a space that can never truly be filled. But in the stories retold around family tables, in the laughter shared among generations, and in the memories that will be passed down to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his spirit will live on.
He was loved by many, will be missed by many more, and will never be forgotten. Sláinte, Red. Thanks for the laughs, the stories, and the memories.
A celebration of life will be held at the Billerica Elks, 14 Webb Brook Rd, Billerica, MA 01821 on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. A short ceremony honoring Paul's life will take place at 2:00pm.
