Peter P. Kelly, 65, died at New England Rehabilitation Center Friday afternoon. Born & raised in Melrose, he was a lifelong resident of Melrose. He entered the Marine Corp in 1953 and had earned the rank of Sergeant. Peter attended Melrose High School and Bunker Hill College. He joined the Melrose Police Dept. in 1957, was promoted to Sergeant in 1968 and served until he retired in August of 1998. He was a member of the Sgt Harold O. Young VFW Post # 2394. Peter was the husband of Eileen M. (Kelley) Kelly. Father of Peter C. Kelly of Saugus and Catherine A. Kelly of Nantucket. Grandfather of Erin Marie & Michael Patrick Kelly. Brother of Lawrence Kelly of Farmington NH, Mary DiBennadetto of Methuen, Celia Collins of Billerica and the late John '' the Mayor '' Kelly. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St Melrose on Mon Oct 15 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited Visiting hours Sun 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm.
