Obituary

Peter Leonard of Melrose & formerly of Reengaroga, Baltimore, Ireland died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 79 years old. Born on May 1, 1931, in Reengaroga, Ireland, a son to the late John & Ellen (O'Driscoll) Leonard, he came to the United States in 1954. Mr. Leonard joined the U. S. Navy and served our country proudly, taking the maiden voyage on the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier. After the service, he worked as a carpenter and enjoyed fixing things around the house. He was a Melrose resident, member of St. Mary's Church and the Holy Name Society. Peter loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, walking Lake Quannapowitt and trips to Castle Island. He was a cherished husband, father & grandfather. Peter was the devoted husband of Margaret T. (Daly) Leonard with whom they shared 52 years of marriage. Loving father of Fr. John J. Leonard O.F.M. of Hartford, CT, Colleen C. White & her husband Mark of Ayer, Marie E. Fullerton & her husband John of Boxford, James C. Leonard & his wife Anne of Peabody & Margaret M. Angiuoni & her husband Guy of Wilmington. Cherished grandfather of Peter & Sarah White, Liam Fullerton, Caitlyn Leonard, Anthony, Juliana & Matthew Angiuoni. Caring brother of Timmy Leonard & his wife Noreen of Cork City, Ireland, Maggie Collins & her late husband Teddy of Reengaroga, Ireland, John Leonard & his wife Etta of Dublin, Ireland, Mary Canty & her late husband Frank of Somerville, Kathleen McSweeney & her husband Dermot of Baltimore, Ireland, the late Paddy Leonard & his wife Mary of Reengaroga, Ireland, the late Michael Leonard, Betty O'Mahoney, Breda Kealing & Eileen Caplice. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, November 19th at 9AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Family & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8PM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
