In Loving Memory of Philip John Nunn
11/05/1940 – 02/23/2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Philip J. Nunn of Melrose a devoted father, grandfather, cherished husband, and treasured friend. He left this world peacefully after a long-term illness on Sunday, February 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength.
Born on November 5, 1940, in Boston Massachusetts, Philip lived a life filled with purpose, compassion, and hard work. He was a man of integrity, always putting his family first, and never hesitating to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His wisdom, gentle spirit, and warm laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A loving father, he guided us with patience, taught us with kindness, and supported us through every challenge. His love was steady and unconditional, a source of comfort and inspiration. He was not only our dad but also our mentor, role model, and best friend.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Daly Nunn, and his daughters, Yvette Sullivan of Norwell MA, Lisa McBride of Stoneham MA, Linda Aylward of Melrose, MA and their husbands, Brendan Sullivan, Stuart McBride, and Richard Aylward, Jr. He also leaves behind his sister, Lorraine Poccio of Revere, MA, and brother, the late Alfred Nunn of TX. In addition, he is survived by his six adoring grandchildren: Jack Aylward (26), Ryan McBride (25), Kyle Sullivan (24), Maggie McBride (23), Mark Aylward (22) and Maeve Sullivan (21). Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find solace in the countless beautiful memories we shared with him.
Beyond his devotion to his family, Philip had an incredibly strong work ethic, and a love for adventure and life. He had a long career as a machinist until he retired in 2014. Philip was a provider for his wife and girls. Every summer he would pack up the family and spend July on Adams Lake in Bridgton ME, where we all enjoyed swimming and canoeing. While in Maine, we would visit Agassiz Village Camp on Thompson Lake which was a boys camp in the 50's where he spent his summers as a teen and young adult. Philip loved his Harley Davidson. He and Nancy would travel to Laconia, NH, Sturges SD, and Gatlinburg, TN with a crew of life- long friends. Philip also had deep passion for music. As a young family, Philip would make sure that his home was always filled with music from the 50's, 60's and 70's. He loved all things Motown and the Blues, Freddie Fender and Delbert McClinton. In his late 60's, Philip decided to take up down-hill skiing and would join his grandchildren for ski lessons at Loon Mountain, NH and not mind that he was the "old guy" on the bunny hill. In his later years, Philip would tinker in his meticulous garage where he played his music and was surrounded with his tools and many pictures from his group trips on his Harley Davidson. As travel became more challenging, he remained committed to meet up with friends on Sundays for "two beers and a burger". Philip always said the early morning sunrise was the best time of the day. He was a perfectionist but found joy in life's simplest moments.
Dad, you remain our rock, our hero, and our greatest blessing. We find comfort knowing that you are cruising into the next chapter, on your Harley, embracing the open road ahead. Godspeed….., Rest in Peace Daddy, we got it from here.
Our family is grateful for the love and support of Tommy Snook, who stood with us during this difficult time. Thank you, Tommy.
