Phyllis A. (Giarratani) Gorman passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Sunday September 13, 2015. She was 81 years of age. Phyllis was born in Boston on July 22, 1934 to the late Nicholas & Catherine (Imbornone) Giarranti, was raised in the North End of Boston, lived in Somerville for several years before moving to Melrose 40 years ago. Phyllis was a homemaker and had worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance as an insurance processor for several years. Mrs Gorman was also a talented curtain maker for Moulton's Curtains on Corey Street in Melrose. She was a longtime member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield, was a member of the Ladies Guild at church and the Melrose Women's Club. Phyllis enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, crocheting and was always up for a car ride to go leaf peeping. Mrs. Gorman also did volunteer work for the United Way. Phyllis was the beloved wife of 60 years to Richard A. Gorman. Loving mother of Karen L. Gorman & her partner Judy Lovejoy of ME, Frank J. Gorman & his loving companion Alice Valesquez of Tewksbury, Phyllis Ann Constantino & her husband Phil of NC and Michelle Gorman & her loving companion Brian McCall of Melrose. Proud grandmother of Brian, Matthew, Mary, Sean & Audrey. Caring sister of Sal, Nina, Mike & Pauline. Also survived by 3 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 4:00-8:00Pm. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, September 18th at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
