Obituary

Ralph F. Hendy, 80, died at Mass General Hospital in Boston on Satuday March 15th after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Medford, he graduated from Medford Vocational School, played minor league baseball for the NY Yankees and the Cleveland Indians. In his younger years, he played baseball for several teams in the Cape Cod League. Ralph joined the Navy in 1942 and served aboard the USS Arkansas. After the war he worked for an electrician in Sandwich and then was employed as an electrician at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard for over 20 years. Ralph had been a Melrose resident for 20 years and a member of the Sandwich American Legion Post. He was the husband of the late Helen (Garland) Hendy. Brother of Marilyn K. Boyson of Melrose and the late William R. Hendy, Jr.. Uncle of William R. Hendy III, John Hendy, Judy Hendy, Thomas Hendy, Stephen Boyson, Scott Boyson and Kimberly Bertazzoni. Great uncle of Nicholas, Cody, John, Jason, Danielle, Crystal, Heather, Samantha and Sarah. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational Church UCC, 121 W. Foster St Melrose at a time to be announced. Burial will be private. There are no visiting hours. WW II Navy Veteran. Arrangements by the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St, Melrose.
