Raymond A. Gillis died at Lakes Region General Hospital in NH on March 6th at the age of 75. Raymond was born in Medford, raised in Medford & Somerville, graduated from from Somerville High School and attended Norwich University. He was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran. Raymond lived in Melrose from 1968 to 1985 and has lived in Meredith NH for the past 18 years. He worked as a corporate planner for the New England Telephone Co. for 38yrs retiring in 1985. Mr.. Gillis was a member of the New England Telephone Pioneers, a member of the Meredith Rotary and Center Harbor Congregational Church in NH. He was the husband of Grace M. (Sargent) Gillis. Father of Raymond A. Gillis Jr. of Melrose and the late Matthew Richard Gillis. Father-in-law of Joan Gillis of Melrose and Janice Gillis of Nashua NH. Brother of Marjorie Vozella of Amherst NH, June Conners of Derry NH and the late Carol Rollins and John Gillis. Grandfather of Shawn, Michael, Christopher, Ryan and Jacqueline. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St. Melrose, on Monday March 10th at 12 o'clock. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sunday from 2-6PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
