Raymond E. Macone, of Stoneham, formerly of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on April 11, 2008 at the age of 78. Raymond was born in Italy and moved to Somerville at the age of 6. He resided in Somerville until 1952 and was a graduate of Somerville High School. Ray went on to earn a degree from Bentley College and worked as a Marketing Representative for Belknap & McClaine Inc. in Watertown for 40 years before his retirement. He was the Commissioner for the Metro Boston Amateur Softball Assoc. for over 38 years and the former commissioner for the Melrose Housing Authority for many years. Ray was a member of the Church of the Incarnation in Melrose, Melrose Elks, and the Sons of Italy for many years. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion (Lima) Macone. Loving father of Linda M. Sinopoli & her husband Paul of Dalton, MA, Diane L. Selecman & her husband David of Burke, VA and Raymond E. Macone Jr. & his wife Leah of Malden. Cherished grandfather of Alison, Mark, Michelle and Andrea. Caring great grandfather of Myah. Devoted brother of Gaetano "Gus" Macone & his wife Rose of Lynnfield and the late Anthony Macone & his late wife Marjorie. Also survived by his dear friend Sandra Allen of Malden and several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday April 15th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in the Church of the Incarnation 425 Upham St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
