Obituary

Richard (Dick) Bretagne, 82, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025. He was the beloved son of Andrew and Florence (Daly) Bretagne. Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carol Kelly Bretagne, and by his beloved sister, Susan Bretagne D'Entremont.

Dick leaves behind his brother-in-law John D'Entremont, his niece Theresa D'Entremont, and many loving cousins, siblings-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his close friend and brother-in-law William Parker and his wife Linda.

Dick grew up in South Boston and left there to serve in the U.S. Air Force. Following his Air Force service, Dick decided to work with "Computers". He believed that his drive, focus, and brains would serve him well. He was very, very correct. His first job in that field was at the Main Computer Department of MIT. From there he held roles over many years in information technology executive leadership as Vice President and Chief Information Officer, including positions with G.E. Information Services, Charter Medical Services, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, and finally retiring several years ago from UMASS Memorial Hospital.

Dick loved swimming. He started swimming on the South Boston Boys Club swimming team at age 10 and continued swimming for the rest of his life. He was a man of many talents, deep thinking, and had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
