Obituary

Richard E. Chipchase passed away at his home in Melrose, on May 8, 2014. He was 93 years of age. Mr. Chipchase was born and raised in Melrose and has been a lifelong resident of Melrose. Richard served his country with pride in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He worked at General Electric for 40 years, first as a machinist, then in crane repair and finishing his career in the machine maintenance division, retiring in 1982. Prior to working at GE he delivered coal & ice and operated a steam shovel. Richard was a member of the Melrose Elks and the VFW Harold O'Young Post # 2394. Mr. Chipchase enjoyed traveling with his late wife Frances to Hawaii, Alaska, California, St. John, Greenland and taking the transcontinental train across America. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances (Gibson) Chipchase. Devoted father of Lance E. Chipchase of Melrose. Brother of the late Nina Dix. Also survived by several relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wednesday, May 14th from 4:00-7:00PM, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday at 10AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Interment with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
