August 9, 1932 – December 3, 2022
Richard "Dick" Allen Peters, of Stoneham, long time Melrose resident, died December 3, 2022 at the age of 90. Dick grew up in Malden where he graduated from Malden High School class of 1950. He worked for the Insurance Department of the Boston Five Cents Savings Bank. He left his job to serve the United States Army where he was selected to attend Officer Candidate School. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant, as an Ordnance Officer at Fort Carson Colorado. Upon discharge he returned to Boston Five and spent his nights at Northeastern University School of Business graduating the class of 1958. He ultimately worked as the Vice President of Savings Bank Life Insurance as well as in other roles for 50 years.
He was the beloved husband of the late Coreen A. (Smith) Peters. Devoted son of the late George and Edith (Langiell) Peters. Brother of the late Lorraine Wilson and her husband the late Philip Wilson of Belmont NH, the late Virginia Harris and her husband the late Chuck Harris of Melrose, and the late Russell Peters and his wife Margaret of Stoneham. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
Dick had a huge love of golf and was a longtime member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose. He enjoyed his time fishing, gardening, reading, woodworking, and had a love for animals, especially his dogs. But his biggest love was time spent with family and friends. There was nothing he loved more than a fun get together for great stories and lots of laughs. Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 5:00 PM immediately following the visiting hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial at Puritan Lawn Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution's may be made in Richard's memory to the Fuller House of Stoneham, 32 Franklin St., Stoneham MA 02180.
