Rita was born in Boston in 1921 to Martin and Elizabeth Connolly. She is the last of the 11 Connolly children, Mae, Joe, Jim, John, Billy, Betty, Anna, Augusta, Elizabeth and Theresa. A clan that produced over 30 nieces and nephews extending across the states and the Atlantic. Rita and James Flannelly were married for 10 years and had four children, Jim (Elaine), Paul and Anne Marie. She was predeceased by her son John. His wife Marsha became Rita's trusted chauffeur and eyes after John died. She is also survived by James's sister, Mary Shannon Cadogen. Besides relatives, Rita leaves her dearest friends and neighbors, the Anastasi Family. After 25 years alone Rita finally found Jerry Lee and they were married from 1978-2002. Jerry was a fantastic addition to the family tree. Visiting hours at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose Friday, May 9th from 4-8Pm with a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose on Saturday at 11AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers donations be made to UCSF Foundation, House Call Program 3333 California St. SF Ca. 94118; the physicians who cared for Rita, in her home, for the last 4 years. The family would also like to thank Marion and her care team especially Marge and Mel who took such great care of Rita in the last four years.
