Rita (McCallum) McLaughlin died after a long illness at Elmhurst Nursing Home in Melrose Nov. 30th at the age of 85. Rita was born in East Boston, raised in Cambridge & Everett and graduated from Everett High School. She lived in Everett for over 50 years and Melrose since 1972. Rita worked as a secretary to the Principal at Everett High School for 28 years retiring in 1982. She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in the Greenwood section of Wakefield. She was the wife of the late Robert A. MacLaughlin Sr.. Mother of Rosemary E. Dolan and her husband Peter J. Dolan of Melrose and the late Robert A. MacLaughlin Jr. Loving grandmother of Mayor-Elect Robert J. Dolan, Sara E. Dolan and Amy C. Dolan all of Melrose. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday Dec. 3rd at 9:30 AM. Funeral the mass in Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hour will be held Monday morning prior to the funeral mass from 8:30-9:30 AM. Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden will be private.
