Rita B. Mullen, of Melrose, formerly of Everett, died at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on Sept. 29, 2014 at the age of 76. Rita was born & raised in Everett, a graduate of Mission Hill High School, Class of 1954 and went on to attend Babson College. She worked as a Supervisor for Commercial Union Insurance Company in Boston for over 40 years and also as an Office Manager for Holt Massey & Company for many years before her retirement. Rita volunteered for the Boston Ballet Company and was also a Past President & member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Harold O' Young V.F.W. Post #2394 in Melrose for many years. She resided in Everett for most of her life, Reading for many years and Melrose for 14 years. Rita was the devoted daughter of the late John & Laurentine (Hanson) Mullen. Caring sister of the late Alice L. Rush & her late husband John, the late John "Jack" Mullen & his wife Robin Rivers of CT and the late Richard "Dick" Mullen & his late wife Gloria. Niece of Helen Hanson of Melrose. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, Oct. 3rd at 7PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to the service from 5-7PM. Burial will be private.
