Rita I. (Dimock) Sherwood, of Melrose, died at the D'Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell on March 20th at 90 years of age. Rita was born & raised in Melrose and a graduate of St. Mary's High School. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Church, St. Mary's Ladies Sodality and St. Mary's Prayer Group. Rita was a lifelong Melrose resident, a Eucharistic Minister and an organist for the Ladies Sodality for several years. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years at American Mutual Insurance Company and also as a secretary at St. Mary's School for over 5 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and her family was the most important part of her life. Rita was the beloved wife of the late Raymond W. Sherwood for 61 years. Loving father of Donald J. Sherwood & his wife Mary of NH, Ralph W. Sherwood & his wife Emma of N. Reading and Janice M. Guerra & her husband Al of VA. Caring sister of the late Irene Taylor, Raymond Dimock & Hazel Doherty. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews and her late grandson Scott Sherwood. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday March 26th at 10AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 3-5PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
