Robert H. Deering passed away in Palm Harbor Florida, on January 26, 2008. He was 92 years of age. Robert was born in Danvers, raised in Danvers, graduated from Danvers High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston. He worked as a metallurgical engineer for the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly for 34 years, working on many government projects during WWII. He lived in Danvers most of his life, 9 years in Beverly, Harrison, Maine for 7 years and moved to Palm Harbor, Florida in 1979. Robert had a passion for boating, was a former member of the United Shoe Boat Club in Beverly, and was a former commodore in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and a former navigation instructor in the Power Squadron Class. Mr. Deering was very active in Danvers; as a town meeting member, a member of the school building commission for the Highlands Elementary School and was the chairman of the building commission for the Centerville Elementary School in Beverly. He was a past master of the Mosaic Lodge AF & AM in Danvers, a member of the Maple Street Congregational Church, the Scottish Rite Lodges in Salem, the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Boston and the Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston, ME. Robert also enjoyed woodworking and painting. He was the husband of the late Doris (Carter) Deering and the present husband of Muriel Paananen Deering of FL. Father of Charles Deering & his wife Kathryn formerly of Melrose & North Reading and the late Ann Deering. Brother of Jean Davis of Danvers. A graveside service will be held at the Walnut Grove Cemetery Sylvan St. Danvers on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited.
