Robert W. ''Doc '' Doherty, 75, died at Mt Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, friday after a lengthy illness. Born in Melrose, he was a life-long resident and graduated from Melrose High in 1943. Doc entered the Marine Corp after graduation , served until January of 1946 and was a corporal when discharged. He was a Melrose Fire-fighter for 32 years until retiring in 1983 and a parishoner of St Mary's Church. Doc was the husband of Delores M. ( Marchand ) Doherty. Father of Daniel E. Doherty of Peabody. Brother of Helen Green of Melrose and the late Virginia Thorner . Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St Melrose on Tuesday April 17 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, corner of Myrtle and Herbert Sts., at 9 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 pm. WW II U. S. Marine Veteran.
